The World Stone Skimming Championships 2012 will take place on Sunday 23 September 2012 on Easdale Island, near Oban in Argyll, Scotland.

Easdale Island
is the smallest permanently inhabited island of the Inner Hebrides. It was once the centre of a thriving Scottish slate mining industry, and one of the disused quarries forms a perfect arena for the World Stone Skimming Championships.The championships are held every year on the last Sunday in September. Anyone of any age and any level of skill can enter. Each competitor is allowed 3 skims using specially selected Easdale slate skimming stones.
For a skim to qualify the stone must bounce at least three times - it is then judged on the distance achieved before it sinks.
T-shirt designs
The 2011 t-shirt logos were designed by Easdale School pupils, Clara Knox, who designed the logo for the front of the shirt (right), while the back logo (above) was designed by Ben Findlay. T-shirts bearing these designs will be available on the day.
Registration
Registration for the championships takes place at Easdale Island Community Hall from 11.00am until 1.00pm on the day. If you would like to compete just turn up as there are no qualifying rounds.

The Pre-Skim Party
On the Saturday night before the event, come and warm up at the Pre-skim Party, in Easdale Island Community Hall where there will be a licensed bar, live music, and where children are most welcome.
For live music in 2011 we had the return of some familiar faces to Easdale Island - but the first time in this incarnation - The Hollow Mountain String Band.
The Hollow Mountain String Band play old-time American music, the wayward child of anglo-celtic traditions and the agreeable old granddaddy of bluegrass and country.
This is foot stompin' hillbilly music with its roots firmly in the dance tradition… you may struggle to stay in your seat. So... dancing shoes compulsory ya varmints.
